Standing Desk

In 2015, I got the opportunity to take a break from working in a company and work on my own project. I started a brand called Sandbucket , and you should definetely check it out :) ! This meant that I was going to work from home, but I didn’t have a proper desk at the time. Was always working on the dinning table, but having to clear up everything for dinner was a bit annoying. So I made a desk!

With all the hip that standing desks were getting, and after trying my former boss one, I decided to go for a custom standing desk. I measured the height that seemed comfortable for me, and just went for it. No height adjustment needed, it will only be used by me. The size is 120 cm x 55 cm, which is actually a bit small. But I didn't have much more space, so it had to be enough!

For the design, I went for a very simple one. Still did not know much about furniture making, so I kept it simple. I bought a beech table top from a wood shop, and made the base on my rooftop. Again, not the best setup, but I quite like how the desk ended up.

Made some shelves on the side, in acrylic to keep the overall look as 'light' as possible. I didn't want to make something too chunky, cause the living room was already pretty busy, and this being a standing desk, it looks already quite big.

The base is made out of cheap construction pine. Again, wanted to keep it in a tight budget so it did the job. A tiny bit better craftsmanship than the dinning table (I had a router to round the edges this time !), but still quite a simple build, nothing too fancy here! Again, it does the job, and that was the only goal there!

After using it for a while, I can tell you that a standing desk is ok, but I think I still prefer seating down! I do stand though, but would say that about 60% of the time I am seating.
