Walnut End Grain Chopping Board

Posted on: 06-03-2017 in Woodwork

I made this chopping board for my parents as a christmas gift. I think they were pretty happy!

It is an end grain chopping board, because it creates a great pattern and also end grain boards are supposed to be nicer to the knives, not as damaging. Apparently end grain chopping boards "heal" themselves up too. As the wood moves along the grain, when it expands or contract it kind of removes the scratches on the surface? If I got it right.. All I can say is that it looks great, and doesn't seem to get too damaged even after being used quite often!
